When you move to Åland with a degree from a college or university in a country other than Finland, you may need to apply to have your degree or academic achievement equated with the corresponding education in Finland. You may also need to apply for professional qualifications to have the right to practice a regulated profession. This applies to, among others, healthcare professions, teachers, social workers and kindergarten teachers, but also others.
In certain regulated professions, for example in healthcare, special professional qualifications (validation) are required for you to be able to work in Åland and Finland. If you have received your degree or professional license in a country other than Finland, you may therefore need to apply for professional qualifications. You do this with the authority responsible for recognition of your specific profession.
