Nature and outdoor activities

The archipelago nature offers fantastic scenery and contrasts. The red granite rocks against the snow in winter, an explosion of flowers in spring, summer's white sails on blue bays, or lush greenery and then autumn's fireworks in green, yellow and red.

The surrounding sea preserves the summer warmth so that it lasts well into autumn. The opportunities for berry and mushroom picking, hiking and exciting excursions are endless. All around Åland there are many beautiful nature trails and hiking paths.

The people of Åland love spending time at and on the water. Most have their own boat, sometimes even two or three. The water is close wherever you live, but it would probably take more than a lifetime to discover all the bays, beaches and uninhabited islands of the archipelago.

In Åland, essentially the same rules for the right of public access apply as in the rest of the Nordic countries, with a few exceptions. For all fishing except angling, you should have a fishing permit.
