The learning process at grit:lab is based on peer to peer learning, levels, points and an overall gamified experience.
You get to explore programming in close collaboration with your peers and learn from both failures and successes.
grit:lab was started to meet the tech industry's need for creative programmers. Through the project-based educational platform 01 Edu, students get to learn software engineering and programming in a new way.
The education has neither teachers nor textbooks, instead the students have the opportunity to receive feedback from other students and from mentors at the tech companies connected to the program.
The education is run by Paf in collaboration with Åland's vocational school, which also validates and handles graduation. This means that you can apply for student financial aid from FPA in Finland, AMS in Åland or Swedish CSN during your studies.

Anna-Lena Svenblad, co-director at grit:lab, explains that the opportunity for a new career in programming and development has attracted applicants from all over the world to Åland. Now they meet on campus in the Åland gaming company Paf's modern premises just outside Mariehamn.
The education is teaching-free and project-based, with neither teachers nor textbooks; instead, it is based on the educational platform Edu 01.
The learning process in Edu 01 is built on gamification and peer-to-peer learning. To advance to the next level, you need to both complete the task and share your knowledge.
The campus is located in the modern premises of the Åland-based gaming company Paf, just outside Mariehamn.
Paf runs grit:lab in collaboration with Åland's Vocational College, which validates and handles graduation. This means that Nordic students can apply for student financial aid from FPA in Finland, AMS in Åland, or Swedish CSN during their studies.
About ten tech companies are involved in the program as grit:lab Partners and interact continuously with the students throughout the two-year studies.
In addition to educating creative programmers, the idea is to open up future employment opportunities by allowing the companies and students to discover each other during their studies.
