Benefits for families with children

What rights and benefits do you have as a parent? Here you can read more about leave, daily allowances, maternity grants, child home care allowance, and child benefit.

As a parent, you are entitled to various types of leave and daily allowances. You can apply for parental daily allowances and other family benefits from the Social Insurance Institution of Finland, Kela, when the family is expecting a child and as the child grows up. The family benefits managed by Kela include maternity grants, parental daily allowances, and child benefit.

Home care allowance instead of child care

When parental allowance ends, you may be granted home care allowance from your home municipality until the child turns three years old. A prerequisite for receiving home care allowance is that the child does not have child care that is arranged or funded by the municipality.

Contact your municipality for more information about home care allowance.

Partial home care allowance

At your home municipality, you can apply for partial home care allowance if you have children under three years of age or if you have children participating in the first or second year of basic education. A prerequisite is that you are partially on care leave or employed part-time.

Contact your municipality for more information about partial home care allowance.
