In Mariehamn there are two sailing clubs, ÅSS and MSF, which run active membership activities for both sailing and motorboat enthusiasts. Both clubs also offer great opportunities for children and young people who want to develop their skills.
In winter, there are ski trails with artificial snow at Åland's biathlon centre in Jomala for those who enjoy cross-country skiing, while Germundö Alpin offers slopes for downhill skiing.

The archipelago nature offers fantastic scenery and contrasts. The red granite rocks against the snow in winter, an explosion of flowers in spring, summer's white sails on blue inlets, or lush greenery and the autumn's fireworks of green, yellow and red.
The surrounding sea preserves the summer warmth so that it lasts well into autumn. The opportunities for berry and mushroom picking, hiking and exciting excursions are endless. All around Åland there are many beautiful nature trails and hiking paths.

Is there an Åland nightlife in winter? Absolutely! It's naturally not as intense as in mid-July, but still far more lively than in many other places of comparable size.
When day turns to evening, there is entertainment for everyone, well into the early hours. In Mariehamn, bars, pubs and nightclubs are never far apart. In the city centre, there are dance floors for every taste. It's always just a short walk to the next place, so you can easily try them out until you find your favourite.
You can also watch theatre, shows and concerts, or visit one of the excellent restaurants. In summer, the outdoor scene rivals that of a major city, with a wealth of music and entertainment events.
