Work in the social and healthcare sector in Åland

In Åland, approximately 2,800 people work in healthcare, care and social services. The Municipal Social Services (KST) is a major employer that is constantly looking for new employees.

Social Services of the Municipalities (KST)

The Municipal Social Services (KST) is responsible for all municipal social welfare in Åland, except for elderly care. KST works to promote residents' health and well-being and to maintain individuals' functional capacity so that everyone has the opportunity to function as full members of society.

KST was established in 2021 and is a municipal federation of which all Åland municipalities are members. KST's operations are still under development, and the organization is working to develop its services in accordance with legislation and internal objectives.

KST is constantly looking for new employees who want to help build a modern, efficient, and high-quality social welfare service. Today, KST has approximately 290 employees divided into five operational areas: 

  • Early support for children and families
  • Child protection
  • Adult social work
  • Disability services
  • Organizational support

KST employs, among others, social workers, social counselors, family counselors, benefits administrators, child welfare officers, therapists, outreach workers, practical nurses, personal assistants, and people in leadership positions. To work in social welfare in Åland, one must apply for the right to practice as a qualified professional in social welfare from the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health in Finland. 

KST offers its staff wellness benefits in the form of massage, culture, and exercise. Occupational health care also includes medical care at the general practitioner level.
