I'm living my best life in Åland!

Nowadays Jesper Josefsson lives with his family in a house in the countryside, close to nature. From home, he has a fifteen-minute drive to his workplace in Mariehamn and only seven minutes to the golf course, which was recently named the best in Finland. 

- Outside the door, the forest awaits, where I often walk with the dog. 

Career

Jesper also notices the proximity to everything in his professional life, where he finds it easy to be visible and make connections. 

- For me, it has been easier to advance my career and start my own business in Åland than when I lived in Sweden. You don't get lost in the crowd and it's easier to connect with key people, whether it's a CEO of a large global company or ministers and politicians. You also know who the right person to contact is, often it's just a matter of emailing or calling to reach someone at a high level. Or you run into them at the grocery store.

Like many Ålanders, Jesper is an entrepreneur and multi-tasker with several of his own projects and companies. Since 2019, he has also been involved in Åland politics, currently as a minister in the regional government with a focus on moving Åland forward in business, environment, and digitalization.

- In Åland, there is a large public sector and an active business community with many career opportunities in various industries. Several companies are international and world-leading in their fields. There is a wide range of different competencies here, and it is easy to build networks.

He also thinks it is evident that Ålanders have long been a seafaring people thanks to the shipping industry. The result is a large number of smaller and larger companies with ties to Åland and operations throughout the world. 

- It is also becoming increasingly common to work remotely from Åland with the whole world as a work field.

Security

In addition to improved quality of life and exciting work challenges, Jesper also appreciates the sense of security in Åland's society.

- I cannot imagine a better place for children to grow up than Åland. There are so many opportunities here, from childcare and school to leisure activities. You can also let the children walk or cycle by themselves to the store, school, or their activities.

He also highlights that Åland invests heavily in community organizations and leisure activities for both children and adults, and feels that the selection is extensive. 

- I have everything I want in Åland and don't have to compromise on anything. Here there is time for family, career, and at the same time I am close to the sea, nature, culture, entertainment, and activities.
