Two months after their first visit to Åland, André Schill and his partner Jenny had bought a plot at Möckelö Strand near Mariehamn. The family with two children will soon be moving into their newly built house.
In other words, it is simpler than many people think for non-Ålanders to purchase land in Åland. The only requirement is that the property must be located in a detailed plan area to be purchasable by someone without right of domicile.
André is a data and analytics expert at the Stockholm-based company InsightOne and now works week-on week-off in Stockholm. Jenny, in turn, has left her career as a financial manager.
– She took the opportunity when we moved and is now studying to become a nurse at the University of Applied Sciences on Åland, and is completely in her element spending her days with like-minded people. Jenny's wish to one day become a midwife becomes more real with each passing day, says André Schill.
In an interview with Ålands Handel, he talks about the move and the new life as a homeowner in Åland. The fact that the family ended up here is also largely about family and access to good schools, a healthy environment and a safe community.
