Upper secondary school education
After comprehensive school, it is possible to continue studying at an upper secondary school, a vocational school or folk high school in Åland. You can also get an education through apprenticeships.
Ålands gymnasium
Most students go on to general or vocational upper-secondary education or vocational training, having finished primary education. The upper-secondary education is provided for by Ålands gymnasium at the schools Åland's lyceum and Åland's yrkesgymnasium.
- Åland´s Lyceum is a basic education upper secondary school that offers a good basis for university and college studies. Completed studies provide an upper secondary qualification in basic education. It includes an upper secondary school certificate and a matriculation examination certificate.
- Åland's yrkesgymnasium (Åland's Upper Secondary Vocational School) offers a basic vocational qualification in several different vocational programs. Completed studies provide an upper secondary qualification with vocational direction. It includes an upper secondary school certificate and a certificate of skills demonstration.
Apprenticeship
You can also earn a vocational qualification by means of an apprenticeship. Apprenticeships are based on a fixed-term employment relationship between an employer and a student, during which the student receives on-the-job training.
Other education centres
At Ålands Folkhögskola young persons and adults get an opportunity to undertake studies in subjects such as crafts, music, sports and media.
